Becky Deane
Hello! My name is Becky and I am thrilled to be a part of the Moving Mountains team offering clinical counselling to children, youth and parents. Joining MM seemed to be a great fit for me in that I am able to continue to support children and their families with the many challenges that present in our everyday lives.
I began my journey working with children 20 years ago as an Early Childhood Educator working in all areas of early intervention. I continued my journey in Human Services graduating from the University of Victoria (BA ’03) in Child and Youth Care. For 10 years, I worked closely with a rural school district as a Child Care Worker supporting students, staff and parents in various capacities as well as leading district wide groups in violence prevention, relationship building and attachment. Following my move to Rossland, I furthered my learning journey in completing my Masters in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University (MACP ’16) and becoming a Registered Clinical Counselor to continue my passion in supporting children and youth with mental health challenges.
My primary focus is in anxiety as well as furthering an understanding and mastering of the wonderful organ we all have: the brain. I am continuing my learning journey with moving towards increasing my knowledge in trauma-informed care and models for supporting children and their communities who raise them. My clinical approach to counselling primarily consists of cognitive behaviour therapies as well as attachment based models moving towards understanding and strengthening relationships including self-regulation, increasing capacity and mindfulness. As I am also passionate about the brain and its leading role in how we perceive our lives, I also incorporate a neurological approach to understanding the aspects of the brain that drive our behaviours.
A bit about me: I grew up in the Boundary region in a rural community and now live in Rossland with my husband and two busy boys. We love the small town atmosphere our community provides, which includes hiking, biking, skiing and camping.
My quote: ‘You won’t know unless you try’. It can be scary and intimidating try something new and as a result, we may find ourselves stuck in places we’d like to move past or not even know how much better it can be. It is my belief, that with the right support and encouragement, we can discover we have the capacity to make small changes that lead to big movement in our lives on our growing journey that is life.
