Making the MM Dream a Reality

We still remember the night we said “OK- Let’s do it!”  Just like that! We sealed the deal with a high five, and neither of us could sleep that night from the excitement of what the future held. This moment of realizing that we were going to start Movin’ Mountains Therapy Services came after many months of planning. We envisioned offering therapy services in a unique way and our plan on how to bring it all together started to take root.

As experienced therapists, we heard first-hand the frustrations of clients and community partners, about the unmet needs and challenges families faced as they tried to navigate the system. Our vision of families and individuals being able to access needed services without limitations was our motivation for Movin’ Mountains, so that we could cater to what families and individuals needed – both in treatment sessions and ongoing support. People need time to heal or for strategies to take hold. We wanted to be with our clients for the journey. We wanted to help them move their mountains.

With a lot of courage and dedication we started to take the steps necessary to start Movin’ Mountains Therapy Services. As our community has shown a need, we have carefully grown our team with incredible people that we respect and who hold the same vision.  And so now, one and a half years later, here we are.

Our goal remains the same: to help our clients realize their true potential.

We are so glad that we took the leap and began this adventure. We can’t wait to see what mountains we all get to move next. United we can truly do great things.

We want to end with a piece by Loren Eisley called the “Story of the Starfish”. We both feel that this represents the essence of what we hope to achieve with our MM dream.

Tamsin and Christine, Co-founders of MM

Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing.

He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.

Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching.  As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea.  The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning!  May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference. The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”
